HISTORY OF THE WACO AREA YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLE
| The Waco Area Youth Wind Ensemble (WAYWE) was founded in the
fall of 1993 by Dr. James Popejoy, former Director of Bands at McLennan
Community College. Selected by audition, this ensemble is comprised of
the finest young instrumentalists in Central Texas. Since its inception, over 500 students representing more than 30 area schools
have participated in WAYWE.
As a select, auditioned group, the mission of the WAYWE is to provide dedicated musicians a venue to experience the finest literature in the wind repertoire while building musical skills and an aesthetic appreciation they will keep and use their entire lives. WAYWE is sponsored by the Visual & Performing Arts Department of McLennan Community College. |
