Concerto Competition Guidelines

1. The piece performed for the recorded audition must be recorded with accompaniment.

2. You may use as many sessions as necessary to get the best possible recording, but the submitted recording must be a run-through of the entire piece with no cuts. No altering, electronically enhancing (including reverb), splicing, or editing of the tape/CD* is allowed.

3. Write the student’s name directly on the tape/CD*. Submissions will not be returned.

4. Complete "TCCBDA Form 5 - Concerto Competition Entry."

5. No fee is assessed for submitting entries for the Concerto Competition.

6. Send TCCBDA Form 5, a photocopy of the music (solo part only), and the soloist tape/CD* to the Concerto Competition Organizer.

7. TAPES/CDs MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN THE SPECIFIED DEADLINE. All tapes postmarked after the deadline will not be judged.

8. If your student is selected as the soloist, you must contact the Symphonic Band Music Organizer as soon as possible to discuss arrangements for securing the music for the band. You are responsible for providing the band music for the convention use (rental, purchase, etc.)

9. In order to maintain a standard of excellence, the judging committee reserves the right to not select a winner if there are no entries considered to be of soloist quality.

10. Read the Concerto Competition Requirements for details regarding this competition before submitting your entry.

11. CDs submitted for auditions must be in audio (not data) format as detailed by Red Book audio specifications (digital audio encoding: 2-channel signed 16-bit PCM sampled at 44,100 Hz). Only CD-R media may be used. CD-RW are not accepted. NOTE : Directors are encouraged to test their discs on at least three different stand-alone CD players to verify that they function. Use of a computer for checking playback functionality is invalid since most computers will play both data- and audio-formatted discs. If in doubt, contact an audio specialist.

12. Unless visibly damaged from shipment (cracked or broken), an audition disc that does not function for the audition panel will be disqualified.

13. Judges will be required to try recordings that do not play the first time on at least two other sources. If, after trying the recording on three sources and it still does not play, that recording will be disqualified.

14. TCCBDA members and auditionees agree that the decision of the panel is final.

15. Any questions regarding the soloist competition should be referred to the current Concerto Competition Organizer.
