TCCBDA All-State Jazz Ensemble Audition Etudes
The TCCBDA Jazz Ensemble audition music is the same as the TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble Audition Etudes. Students are to play the etudes and improvise as outlined in the TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble Audition Tryout Packet. There are no “cuts” for TCCBDA.
The TMEA All State Jazz Ensemble Audition Packets and All-State Jazz Drum and improv CD’s are from the following vendors:
Penders Music - 800-772-5918
RBC Music - 800-548-0917
Southern Music - 800-284-5443
Rehearsal MIDIs and errata can be found at www.tjea.org
IMPORTANT! Please Read
- The etudes should be in the following order on the recordings.
- Etude 1: Swing
- Etude 2: Ballad
- Etude 3 Latin/Funk
- Improvisation
- On etudes with region and state cuts (Brass) the state cuts must be used.
- Audition recordings of the etudes for all wind instruments, piano, guitar and bass guitar should NOT be recorded with the midi practice files. They should be recorded without accompaniment.
- Drummers should record the etudes first (see order above) with the play along tracks and the drum styles (unaccompanied) second.
- All students are expected to improvise. If students are not comfortable improvising they can find a tune that fits the changes and play that over the changes.
- All improvisation will be from the “state improv etudes” in the packet.
- The improvisation tracks should be from the All State Drum and improv CD and not Aebersold or other tracks.
