CHARLES LEWIS

BIOGRAPHY

Charles Lewis received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Theory and Composition from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. While at MSU, he studied composition and arranging with Dr. Christopher Gallaher, counterpoint with Dr. Frederick Mueller, and piano and arranging with Mr. Jay Flippin. He also studied conducting with Mr. Eugene Norden and Dr. Richard Miles. As a senior at MSU, he won the Kentucky Music Teachers Association Composition Contest at the collegiate level and finished 1st runner-up in the Music Teachers National Association's southern regional contest that same year. Also while an undergraduate at MSU, Mr. Lewis served as marching band arranger for several bands throughout Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee, including his alma maters Russell High School in Flatwoods, Kentucky and the MSU Marching Band. After teaching for 5 years in Kentucky, he returned to Morehead State as a Graduate Teaching Assistant under Dr. Gallaher, Dr. Larry Blocher, and Mr. Frank Oddis, and earned the Master of Music Degree in Theory and Composition.

Mr. Lewis currently resides in Ashland, Kentucky with his wife and three children and continues to serve as arranger for several high school marching bands, including the George Rogers Clark High School Band from Winchester, Kentucky, whose director, Mr. Eddie Prichard, was his band director at Russell High School and instrumental in nurturing his earliest interest in composition and arranging as a high school student.
