BRIAN P. HARRISBIOGRAPHYDr. Brian P. Harris is Director of Bands at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. Prior to joining the MCC faculty, he taught public school band from 1979 to 1986 and was Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1991 to 2000. He holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University, the Master of Music Education from Louisiana State University, and the Bachelor of Music from Samford University.
During his tenure at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Harris initiated the Young Band Repertoire Project, a multi-year endeavor to record, document, evaluate, analyze, and list information regarding repertoire for the young band (2nd & 3rd year players). He also provides resources for band directors through his Bandroom.com Publications website.
At MCC, he conducts the Wind Symphony, the Waco Area Youth Wind Ensemble, and the Waco Community Band. He is author of the Warner Brothers method book Directional Warm-Ups for Band. He has published and presented clinics and research at state and national levels and remains active as an adjudicator, clinician, and composer.
